Pilcomayo National Park is located in the northeastern part of Formosa Province, established in 1951, covering an area of 118,000 acres. It was established to protect the vast grasslands, extensive swamps, murmuring streams, tranquil lakes, and lush forests of the region.

Pilcomayo National Park has been listed in the Ramsar Convention’s International List of Wetlands of International Importance, playing a significant role in wetland conservation. According to the different types of plants in the park, it can be divided into four parts: tropical grasslands, wetlands, high mountain areas, and the Pilcomayo River area. The wetland area is the home of aquatic vegetation, where plants such as water-hyacinth, yellow velvetleaf, watercress, and loosestrife thrive. In this park, visitors can enjoy the beauty of the grasslands, white palm trees, low swampy areas, and its highest point which resembles island-like hills, showcasing the beauty of nature.

Due to the park’s climate and its advantageous location near the forest, this national park has naturally become a habitat for a diverse range of animal species. Capybaras, wild boars, howler monkeys, tinamous, maned wolves, and rheas are among the most common animals here.
